Texas Hold’em Basics – A Basic Introduction to the Game

Poker has been a popular game among Americans and many people enjoy the fun and excitement that poker provides. Poker was originated in the 19th century as a card game played with four pairs of cards dealt from a deck. It has changed little over the years but remains very popular in many different variations. One of the most interesting things about poker is that it is both an emotional and mental game. Poker is an enjoyable family of games where players wager over which card is best based on the rules of that particular game.

A poker hand consists of the following five cards: aces, kings, queens, jacks and knights. If a player has a good hand, they raise the betting and if they have a bad hand, they fold. Raising in poker means increasing your stake and folding means reducing your stake. If you have a good hand, you may be called and the pot will be increased; however, if you have a poor hand, it means you have to keep betting because you have already lost the pot.

If you are playing Texas Hold’em poker and have no cards in your hand, the dealer will” ante” you and give you additional chips before the flop. The amount of additional chips is based on the total amount of chips, the dealer has marked including the ante. If you have more chips than the dealer has marked, then you have to call. On your turn, if you have any additional chips after calling, you can put them into the pot or if you have less chips, you can fold. After the flop, the dealer will count the number of chips in the pot and the ante and then deduct his bet from the amount left there.
